Kevin Costner Is a Streaming King Even Without Taylor Sheridan as New Show Climbs Charts
With his epic Horizon: An American Saga stuck in limbo and his ties with producer Taylor Sheridan unceremoniously shredded, star Kevin Costner is relying on television hosting gigs this year. After Kevin Costner’s The West, he can currently be seen in Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas. Released on Hulu, the streaming special features Costner narrating the story of the birth of Jesus Christ, interspersed with dramatic re-enactments. Costner recently found himself having to deal with a bit of bad press, when it was reported that he nearly came to blows with Wes Bentley on the set of Yellowstone. This came on the heels of a widely publicized blow-up between him and the show’s creator, Sheridan.
Yellowstone continues to be hugely popular on the global Paramount+ charts, as do several of Sheridan’s other shows, such as Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King, not to mention the Yellowstone spin-offs 1923 and 1883. The First Christmas, on the other hand, found a spot for itself on the domestic Hulu charts with relative ease. It continues to hold on, even though it has surrendered its ranking to shows such as Percy Jackson and the Olympians, All’s Fair, and The Simpsons. The First Christmas doesn’t have an official Rotten Tomatoes score yet, but its IMDb rating is sitting at a solid 7.7. Faith-based projects tend to deliver impressive audience scores, as can be seen from recent titles such as House of David, Jesus Revolution, and The King of Kings.
