Netflix’s Upcoming Gender-Swapped Action Romance Changes Title to Avoid a Kevin Costner Problem
Jared Padalecki’s upcoming romantic comedy has now changed its name to avoid confusion with one of Kevin Costner’s most popular movies. Padalecki is set to star alongside Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester in a feature film adaptation of the 2022 romance novel, “The Bodyguard,” written by Katherine Center for
Netflix. The only problem is that The Bodyguard is also the title of the smash-hit 1992 Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston-led romantic thriller.

Author Katherine Center took to Instagram to announce the adaptation will have a new title to avoid confusion with the original The Bodyguard. Padalecki and Meester will now star in Guarding Stars. Henry confirmed the title change was related to the 1992 film, saying, “We had to change the title because there already is a movie called The Bodyguard. That’s already iconic, and this movie needs to be iconic in its own way.” See Center’s announcement below, along with the film’s title card.
