Kevin Costner, who holds the enviable title of Princess Diana’s celebrity crush, was once slated to co-star in a movie with the late royal—at least according to the Field of Dreams actor. The duo apparently had plans to film The Bodyguard 2 before her tragic death in 1997. Costner revealed as much in a 2024 appearance on The Howard Stern Show.

“When Diana passed, about a year later it had leaked out that I was prepping Bodyguard 2 with her,” he explained, per OK. “And what happened was, the royal family kind of turned on me a little bit.”

Costner went on to say that he even reached out to Sarah Ferguson for advice on how to handle the situation. The former Duchess of York advised him to let it go, but he eventually spoke with the family.

“Finally I called up Sarah and said, ‘Sarah, you need to tell me who is leading the charge there on this thing,'” he said. “She goes, ‘No, no, no, Kev, you don’t want to talk to them.’ I said, ‘Yes, I do.’ I called them up and I said, ‘I’m telling you something, you need to stop, because it is true. And if you don’t stop, I’m gonna start. Because it was.'”
